The default servlet for Tomcat is declared in $CATALINA_HOME/conf/web.xml :

Therefore, static content is rendered by the default configuration unless you override it with your own definitions.
If you want to allow directory listing, just change the listing parameter to true :

The insertAttribute tag allows you to have a body as well as specify a default value, but both values are scriptless , i.e., scriptlet is not allowed in body:

and defaultValue is output literally:

And, <put-attribute> in tiles definition does not replace the body of <tiles:insertAttribute> , it appends to the body!

When you insert an attribute in JSP:

you must define the attribute in tiles definitions:
<definition name="/home" template="/WEB-INF/templa...
Otherwise you'll get runtime exception.
The ignore attribute, which defaults to false , will suppress the runtime exception when the attribute is not defined in tiles definition:

Steps to enable SSI (Server Side Include) in Apache HTTPD:
Enable mod_include .
In httpd.conf , update directive:

To control caching :
Use the XBitHack Full configuration. This tells Apache to determine the last modified date by looking only at the date of the originally requested file, ignoring the modification date of any included files.
Use the directives provided by mod_expires to set an explicit expiration time on your files, thereby letting browsers and proxies know that it is acceptable to cache them.

For Tomcat 6, there's no default manager username and password. You do have to set it up yourself, though it's pretty straightforward. The Tomcat manager webapp is restricted to users with a role named manager . So you'll need to create a user and assign the manager role to it.
Edit $CATALINA_BASE/conf/tomcat-users.xml to read:

A naive try would be something like this:

Parsing a CVS file seemed to be a sore spot for software development. It's not simple enough that you can roll your own code in a couple of hours, and yet not deemed big enough for a full-fledged project. As a result, there are multiple libraries, each one with its own quirks. This is a summary of some simple tests I've done with five CSV parsers. Apache commons CSV parser : Does not escape backslash. The backslash is treated as literal if not proceeding a double quote, but then there's no way to have a backslash as the last character before the ending quote (even though it's a rare scenario).
