You can use the system call from the os module to execute an external program: >>> import os >>> os.system(the_command_line_st... However, the path to the executable contains a space character, the system call treats the strings after the first space as arguments, causing an error. Python doc recommends the use of the subprocess module: The subprocess module provides more powerful facilities for spawning new processes and retrieving their results; using that module is preferable to using this function. For example, using wget to get the google home page: >>> from subprocess import Popen, PIPE >>> (out... or >>> import subprocess >>> subprocess.call(['cur...

These bean types are essential for the Spring MVC framework. I copied them here from the Spring Documentation for quick reference. Bean type Explanation HandlerMapping Maps incoming requests to handlers and a list of pre- and post-processors (handler interceptors) based on some criteria the details of which vary by HandlerMapping implementation. The most popular implementation supports annotated controllers but other implementations exists as well. HandlerAdapter Helps the DispatcherServlet to invoke a handler mapped to a request regardless of the handler is actually invoked. For example, invoking an annotated controller requires resolving various annotations. Thus the main purpose of a HandlerAdapter is to shield the DispatcherServlet from such details. HandlerExceptionResolver Maps exceptions to views also allowing for more complex exception handling code. ViewResolver Resolves logical String-based...

By default Firefox puts a dotted line box around the link or button label when you click them. Sometimes it's annoying and makes your sexy buttons look ugly. You can get rid of the dotted lines for links with outline:none in CSS, but that doesn't work for buttons. <!doctype html> <html> <head> <style t... For buttons you need " button::-moz-focus-inner { border: 0; } ": <!doctype html> <html> <head> <style t... I've also seen this: /* get rid of those system borders being generated... For more information : Remove Button Focus Outline Using CSS

This example came from the jQuery validation documentation. The required rule can be used to validate a required selection box when you set the value of the first option to empty. <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <scrip... The error message is the title since no error message is specified. A more fully defined validation check would look like this: $('#my-form').validate({ errorElement: "p", ...

For JavaScript in the <script> block or JavaScript included with a src attribute: nothing more is needed than escaping the single quote or double quote - depending on how the JavaScript string is quoted. Example: var a = 'My name is <?php echo str_replace('\'', '... For inline JavaScript, escape HTML special characters : <?php echo '<a href="test" onclick="alert(\...

I have long noticed that IE8 displays a "broken page" icon while showing my web pages, but didn't pay much attention. Since the world in general considers IE to be broken, it's not so unlogical for IE to see much of the world as broken. Until one day I noticed that the Google home page was not "broken". Then I thought may be I should fix my pages also. So I moused over the "broken page" icon, and this is what I saw: Compatibility View: websites designed for older browsers will often look better, and problems such as out-of-place menus, images, or text will be corrected. Very descriptive indeed! Older browsers? Such as Firefox 1.5? When it comes to MS products, I often had better...

It's probably more useful to make the JavaScript executor a bookmarklet. That way it gains access to the page on which it is invoked. Therefore, more helpful while debugging.
