You can use the system call from the os module to execute an external program:
>>> import os
>>> os.system(the_command_line_st...
However, the path to the executable contains a space character, the system call treats the strings after the first space as arguments, causing an error.
Python doc recommends the use of the subprocess module:
The subprocess module provides more powerful facilities for spawning new processes and retrieving their results; using that module is preferable to using this function.
For example, using wget to get the google home page:
>>> from subprocess import Popen, PIPE
>>> (out...
or
>>> import subprocess
>>> subprocess.call(['cur...

This example came from the jQuery validation documentation. The required rule can be used to validate a required selection box when you set the value of the first option to empty.

The error message is the title since no error message is specified. A more fully defined validation check would look like this:
$('#my-form').validate({

The following page injects CSS rules with JavaScript. It works fine in Firefox and Chrome.
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascrip...
But in IE, it breaks with "Unknown runtime error" (seemed like it's trying to interpret the curly brackets in the CSS as JavaScript blocks!):
In order to make it work in IE, the code need to be changed to:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascrip...
The tricks to identify IE and insert new CSS rules came from Paul Irish .

The scriptable attribute defaults to false . However, even when you set it to true , there is a time delay between when the applet is loaded and when it becomes scriptable . The following code may fail:
<html><body>

IE uses Notepad as the default editor when you select "View Source" from a web page. You can change it to your favorite editor by adding a couple of keys to the registry: Start regedit Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Add key View Source Editor Under View Source Editor , add key Editor Name Change the default string value to the full path of your favorite editor. The following is the registry entry for vim (full tip for vim is available from the vim wiki ):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_... It is probably easier (less error prone) to edit this in a file and import it back into the registry. The contents of gvim.vbs are: '--- gVim.vbs ------------------------------------... It is OK to use gvim.exe...

This is a script to tail a log file through the web browser. It uses AJAX, apache web server, mod_python, UNIX utilities tail (requires the --lines switch) and wc . The log file may reside on the web server or any other host accessible from the web server through SSH.
Although it's written in python, it should be easy to port to other languages such as Perl.
Apache httpd.conf :
LoadModule python_module modules/mod_python.so
...
Python script:
import time, os
from os.path import basename
...
