Tomcat allows you to create multiple server instances for the same installation. The installation directory is identified as CATALINA_HOME , the instance directory is identified as CATALINA_BASE . Here are the steps: Create a base directory for the new instance, for example: /home/nogeek/tomcat1 . Create the subdirectories:
mkdir -p /home/nogeek/tomcat/{bin,conf,logs,temp,w... Copy web.xml from the installation directory: cp $CATALINA_HOME/conf/web.xml /home/nogeek/tomcat... cURL is a command line tool for transferring files with URL syntax. The main purpose and use for cURL is to automate unattended file transfers or sequences of operations.
It's really easy to see HTTP headers with curl:
C:\>curl --head http://www.google.com
HTTP/1.0 ...
or, headers and page together (dump headers to stdout):
$ curl --dump-header - http://www.google.com HTTP/...
Download openssl from openssl.org:
curl http://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-0.9.6m....
C:\>curl --help
Usage: curl [options...] <url>

The tags <c:out> The <c:out> tag evaluates an expression and outputs the result on the page. The syntax is:
<c:out value="value" [escapeXml="{true|false}"] ... where escapeXml defaults to true and default defaults to empty string "". <c:out value="${expr}" escapeXml="false"/> is equivalent to ${expr} . If a variable is set in multiple scopes, the lower scope wins. In the following example code, attribute1 is set in request, session, and application scopes; attribute2 is set in session and application scopes; attribute3 is set in the application scope. The results are: <c:out value="${attribute1}"/> : Attribute1 request scope <c:out value="${attribute2}"/> : Attribute2 session scope <c:out value="${attribute3}"/> : Attribute3 application scope To access values in higher scopes, you have to specify the scope explicitly, like this: <c:out value="${sessionScope.attribute1}"/> : Attribute1 session...

When you start Tomcat for the first time, you may get the "port 8080 is already in use" error. Indeed, port 8080 is commonly used by a lot of development servers by default (Oracle XE for another example). Luckily, it's quite easy to ask Tomcat to use a different port. I use port 8086, which is a natural next step and superior to 8080.
Simply edit $CATALINA_BASE/conf/server.xml and change 8080 to 8086:
<!-- A "Connector" represents an endpoint by w...
If you have not configured Tomcat 6 for multiple instances by setting a CATALINA_BASE directory, then $CATALINA_BASE will be set to the value of $CATALINA_HOME , the directory into which you have installed Tomcat 6.

On Linux, you can use the fuser command to find out who has a file open, or is using a port. For example, if you start Tomcat and get the error "Address already in use: 8080", you want to know which process is already binding to port 8080.
# list processes on port 8080
fuser 8080/tcp

In sqlnet.ora , there's a parameter named NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN that usually contains the value world . If you remove this parameter then you don't need to append .world . My sqlnet.ora contains three lines:
# sqlnet.ora Network Configuration File: C:\wo...
To force a lookup without NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN appended, append a dot to the tnsname:
tnsping unqualified_tnsname_name.

This procedure works for Oracle application server 10.1.3.1, SOA suite. But should be applicable for standalone OC4J or JDeveloper installations with minor modifications. $ORACLE_HOME is the home directory for Oracle app server. $JDEV_HOME is the home directory for JDeveloper.
1. Change directory to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee , mkdir lib
2. Copy xmlparserv2.jar from $JDEV_HOME to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/lib .
3. Copy ocj.jar and jdev_remote.jar from $JDEV_HOME/jdev/lib to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/lib .
4. Edit global-web-application.xml under your OC4J instance's config directory. Change the development attribute to true .
<orion-web-app
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/...
5. Add the following to the servlet section of global-web-application.xml :
<servlet>
<servlet-name>jsp</servlet-na...
6. Edit $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml , add -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=4000 to start-parameters/java-options :
<process-type id="MYOC4J" module-id="OC4J" status=...
7. In Eclipse, open to port 4000 for remote debugging.

This is a script to tail a log file through the web browser. It uses AJAX, apache web server, mod_python, UNIX utilities tail (requires the --lines switch) and wc . The log file may reside on the web server or any other host accessible from the web server through SSH.
Although it's written in python, it should be easy to port to other languages such as Perl.
Apache httpd.conf :
LoadModule python_module modules/mod_python.so
...
Python script:
import time, os
from os.path import basename

The tnsnames.ora file maps net service names to connect descriptors. Here's a sample:
ORA10 =
(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST =
...
When a client connects with a net service name, tnsnames.ora is searched in the following order:
$HOME/.tnsnames.ora (or current working directory on Windows)
$TNS_ADMIN/tnsnames.ora
/etc/tnsnames.ora
$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
